Cheveux rassembl\u00e9s dans un petit chignon haut et impeccable, sneakers flashy, bijoux sobres au design n\u00e9o africain, le look de Lakwena Maciver est \u00e0 l’image des ses cr\u00e9ations. Piment\u00e9 et inspirant. La plasticienne bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Londres parle de son travail avec p\u00e9dagogie et une calme conviction au sous-sol de la galerie Mariane Ibrahim qui la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre sur deux \u00e9tages et une explosion de couleurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lanc\u00e9e en 2019, la galerie couvre aujourd’hui trois continents et repr\u00e9sente une vingtaine d\u2019artistes. Motto : valorisation des cr\u00e9ateurs afro-descendants. Sans exclusion car la galeriste a notamment expos\u00e9 Eva Jospin \u00e0 Chicago et insiste sur les \u00ab\u00a0conversations\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lakwena Maciver s’inscrit donc logiquement dans la programmation apr\u00e8s Rapha\u00ebl Barontini (We Could Be Heroes<\/em> au Panth\u00e9on \u00e0 Paris), Amoako Boafo, Shannon T. Lewis ou encore l’hommage collectif \u00e0 Jos\u00e9phine Baker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e du London College of Communication, o\u00f9 elle a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la conception de m\u00e9dias graphiques et l’illustration, Lakwena Maciver expose \u00e0 Miami et \u00e0 Los Angeles. Elle explore son identit\u00e9 \u00e0 travers l’esth\u00e9tique africaine, en particulier ougandaise. Sa \u00ab\u00a0marque de fabrique\u00a0\u00bb est d’abord le muralisme et l’ornement. <\/p>\n\n\n

Aux murs de la galerie, des tableaux compos\u00e9s de mat\u00e9riaux divers allant du bois aux fragments de verre. Ainsi que de mots qui r\u00e9chauffent \u00ab I Known I can count on you \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n

Lakwena Maciver poursuit un travail initi\u00e9 dans le salon de coiffure de son mari avec certains habitu\u00e9s des commerces de la diaspora africaine. L\u2019occasion de revisiter cette esth\u00e9tique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019artiste pose aussi un regard f\u00e9minin sur la masculinit\u00e9 et interroge le vivre ensemble. Mais Lakwena Maciver dit avant tout vouloir diffuser une spiritualit\u00e9. Un gaze aussi qui surmonte les douleurs. Les mains g\u00e9antes de \u00a0\u00bb I’M IN YOUR HANDS \u00a0\u00bb sont \u00e0 ce titre une invitation \u00e0 la confiance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
